Jackknife Yourself to a Stronger Core

Add variety to your routine, but only if you’re up for a challenge.

If you’re looking to tighten your abdominal muscles, you may want to try the jackknife sit-up. There are several variations, and each one will challenge your core muscles more than other traditional ab exercises. In fact, this exercise also benefits your lower back from the manoeuvre, allowing you to become more flexible.

With so many ab exercises and equipment designed to strengthen the core, the jackknife sit-up is unique because it’s an effective move in targeting your lower stomach. You know, that part many of us try to hide with a peplum shirt or girdle. Yes!

Overall, the jackknife sit-up is an excellent way to work your 'six-pack' muscles, and after one set you’ll certainly feel the pain but don’t give up!

Follow these steps:

  1. Lie flat on your back with your arms extended straight behind your head.

  2. Bend at the waist while simultaneously raising your legs and arms to meet in a jackknife position.

  3. Lower your arms and legs back to the starting position.

  4. Repeat 10 times.
